Cleveland Browns Young Standout No. 1 – Perrion Winfrey

One of the more exciting picks of the 2022 NFL draft was Perrion Winfrey, a talented defensive tackle from Oklahoma that slide further than many expected. This is a guy who is not only a vocal leader but gives 110 percent on every single play he is on the field.

I love the pick by Andrew Berry because of the talent, but it really didn’t solve any issues at defensive tackle. Now the Browns just have four interior linemen who struggle vs. the run and are great at rushing the passer. That aside, I do expect Winfrey to get a decent number of snaps in 2022.

Neither Tommy Togiai nor Jordan Elliott was as good as expected last year, and I think one of those two or likely to not make the final roster in order to make room for Winfrey. I also see Berry bringing in another veteran presence who can clog up the middle on third and short.

A guy like Winfrey who can collapse a pocket up the middle not only puts additional pressure on a quarterback who loses the ability to step up, but he also makes the outside pass rush that much more efficient. No one on the team will be more excited than Garrett to have a force up the middle that could cause quarterbacks to leak out and give him a few easy sacks each season.

It’s easy to fall in love with Winfrey because he says and does all the right things, but I really do think he will have an impact as a rookie.

Similar to Wright, he won’t be on the field every single play, but you should expect to see him get 10 to 15 snaps right away.
