5 toughest quarterbacks Cleveland Browns will face in 2022
The Cleveland Browns will face a plethora of different quarterbacks in 2022, but these six will be the toughest for the defense to stop.
No game for the Cleveland Browns will be easy in 2022, but going against these five quarterbacks will be no walk in the park. Quarterback play in the NFL is key, and while the Browns finally have an elite signal-caller under center in Deshaun Watson, they still have to compete against some of the league’s best.
The first month of the season is relatively “easy” for the Browns in terms of the opposing quarterbacks they will face. The likes of Sam Darnold, Zach Wilson, Mitch Trubisky – or Kenny Pickett – and Marcus Mariota don’t pose much of a threat to the Browns defense.
The importance of the position cannot be stressed enough and truly is the barometer of whether or not a team can compete for a Super Bowl. The AFC is now loaded with elite NFL quarterbacks, which will make the Browns’ journey that much harder to navigate.
Cleveland has a pretty good defense, especially now that EDGE rusher Jadeveon Clowney re-signed with the team on Sunday afternoon. He and Myles Garrett will be chomping at the bit on every snap with the hope of getting to the opposing quarterbacks.
Let’s dive into this list of toughest quarterbacks the Browns will face in 2022.
Toughest quarterback Cleveland Browns will face in 2022 No. 5:
Justin Herbert – Los Angeles Chargers – Week 5
The Los Angeles Chargers are going to be contenders for years to come thanks in large part to quarterback Justin Herbert. He is one of the premiere, up-and-coming quarterbacks in the NFL and he’s only about to enter his third season.
Herbert and the Chargers will travel to Cleveland in Week 5, giving the Browns seemingly their first real test of the season. This could play a factor as Los Angeles will have to travel from the western to the eastern time zone and that could throw them off their rhythm.
Last season, Herbert led the Bolts to a thrilling 47-42 victory over the Browns in Week 6 back in Los Angeles. In the game, he threw for 398 yards and four touchdowns.
Cleveland will need to have a better game-plan this go around, and have the necessary weapons to do it. Denzel Ward, Greg Newsome II, Greedy Williams, and rookie Martin Emerson will have their hands full with the likes of Keenan Allen and Mike Williams.
This game could have major playoff implications in an extremely crowded AFC, so getting a win would go a long way for the Browns in 2022.
