Cleveland Browns Reason for Disappointment No. 3 – Lack of Wide Receiver Depth

Once again, I’m afraid that Berry and the Cleveland Browns are going to make the same mistake they did in 2021 at wide receiver. While Cooper is a legit number one receiver (which is more than they had last year), I still am afraid they are overvaluing Donovan Peoples-Jones and Anthony Schwartz, as well as expecting too much from a rookie, David Bell.

The depth at the position is far too thin in my opinion, and let’s not forget, they also got rid of Austin Hooper who was a receiving threat at tight end. I know he never lived up to expectations, but it’s still worth noting he is no longer on the team as well.

If no one else is added to the roster, Berry continues to play his hand on how little he thought of Baker Mayfield. He’s asking Watson to work with less at the position and still will demand to have one of the most powerful offenses in the league.

I don’t think the position is far from being above average, but they really need to consider bringing in a veteran presence to solidify the room. I think Peoples-Jones could thrive with Watson, but he’s yet to take the next big step so it’s hard to make that assumption.

This team has spent so much money and draft capital to build the roster that they have, I just struggle for them to not spend five to seven million on a receiver that could be a huge contributor in the 2022 season.
