The Cleveland Browns running back room is quite crowded with talent, which is a good problem to have, but what is the ideal role for each back.

We are getting closer and closer to training camp and that’s where the fun will actually begin for the Cleveland Browns. There will be a number of roster decisions made over the next few months, some of which will be incredibly tough. As of right now, the Browns are rostering six running backs heading into camp, so what is the ideal role for each of them?

Last season, Cleveland carried four running backs into the season opener against Kansas City, but the number was only three the year prior. So as far as what we can tell based on history is the fact we can’t go off history this time. Another wrinkle in this is the role of the fullback. For the past two years, a fullback has been on the roster, but that could change come this season.

One or two running back could be on the trading block, should a good deal present itself for Andrew Berry to take. The Browns have a plethora of options, but as for now, here are the ideal roles for each member of the running back room.

Nick Chubb is one of the best running backs in the NFL and depending on who you ask; he could be the top dog in the yard. Nothing will change in regards to the role Chubb will have on this team. He is going to continue to be the go-to back toting the rock.

Chubb is an elite running back that continues to get better every single season, and that isn’t exactly an easy thing to do in such a pass-happy league. The ability to run the football as he does is a huge tool in the Browns offensive repertoire.

Chubb could be even better in 2022 and beyond with an elite quarterback in Deshaun Watson now under center for the Browns. The two will help each other in a big way and that in turn, should spell trouble for opposing defenses.
