3 Cleveland Browns that could make their first Pro Bowl in 2022
1. Cleveland Browns CB: Greg Newsome
There were some fantastic rookies in 2021, and Greg Newsome played at one of the highest levels all season. When the Browns selected him with pick No. 26 in the first round, it was almost expected that he would immediately start Week 1 for the Browns. His college career was very impressive and many thought he was a sure thing at the next level. They were right.
Newsome often appeared like a 5-year veteran in 2021. Several teams attempted to pick on him early on in the season, but he didn’t get burnt and picked apart like a lot of rookie cornerbacks usually do. From game one, he displayed great poise, awareness, and ball tracking skills. He finished with 36 tackles and a 68.1 Pro Football Focus grade. He didn’t snag his first career interception, but he still made great plays week in and week out.
There is still room for Newsome to improve, and he luckily has a great teacher on the opposite side in Denzel Ward. Having a player of that caliber will only help Newsome take a bigger step forward in 2022. There is also speculation that his role on defense might change a bit in 2022, seeing more looks as the slot corner.
This can open up even more opportunities for him to make plays and get interceptions. As mentioned earlier, the Browns have so much talent on defense so this will only make Newsome’s life easier.
There is a good chance that the Browns see their top two cornerbacks make the Pro Bowl in 2022.
