The Browns are pretty set at the defensive back position, but could there be room to add a familiar face?

The Cleveland Browns have had an offseason with very few dull moments. There may be an opportunity to add to the craziness that has surrounded the team for months.

Late in the night on June 22nd, former Browns Pro Bowler Joe Haden posted a photo of him in the brown and orange on his Instagram story with the caption “Discussion.” This got a lot of people talking, but what could it mean?

There are two possible scenarios: Haden wants to join the Browns and chase a Super Bowl or he wants to sign a one day contract so he can retire a Cleveland Brown.

Haden was mostly loved during his sever years in Cleveland. Some fans took it personal when he signed with the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2017, but many still appreciated what he did for the Browns during his time on the team.

Some may wonder where exactly Joe Haden would fit in the current Browns defense. With Denzel Ward, Greg Newsome, Greedy Williams, and rookie Martin Emerson in the mix, the room is very crowded. Haden could come on as a fourth option for depth and to rotate in and out of the slot and mentor Emerson.

He could also move to the safety position for depth there, but that seems less likely. Ward and Williams have injury history, so an extra body in the room couldn’t hurt if the price is right.

During his time in Cleveland, Haden went to two Pro Bowls and had 19 interceptions. Even at age 33, he has still proven to play at a solid level on the back half of his career.

Andrew Berry doesn’t typically go after aging veterans, but he does love defensive backs so we will see if there is a reunion in Cleveland between the Browns and Haden.
