Cleveland Browns 53-man roster prediction without Deshaun Watson
By Randy Gurzi
The Cleveland Browns had their mandatory minicamps recently which makes this a good time to predict their 53-man roster to start the 2022 season
Mandatory minicamps have taken place and now, NFL training camps are roughly a month away. These sessions are huge in terms of planning a 53-man roster, which is something the Cleveland Browns might have trouble with this season.
General manager Andrew Berry has done a great job building depth, which means there will be some tough cuts ahead. We try and guess how things will shake out with this 53-man roster prediction, which has one extra spot since Deshaun Watson will likely start the season on the suspended list.
Cleveland Browns Quarterbacks (2):
Jacoby Brissett
Josh Dobbs
For the first time since Week 1 of the 2018 season, someone other than Baker Mayfield will be the starting quarterback for the Cleveland Browns. Mayfield, who took over in Week 3 of his rookie season has been the longest-tenured starter since they returned to the NFL in 1999.
However, the Browns had a chance to upgrade the position, which they did by adding Watson. Of course, Watson does have a possible suspension looming overhead and in this 53-man prediction, he’s not accounted for due to the ban.
That means Jacoby Brissett will get the call with Josh Dobbs serving as the No. 2 option. Brissett has 37 career starts with a completion percentage of 60.2. He also has been solid with a 36-to-17 touchdown-to-interception ratio.
He’s not the same level as Watson but he can do a lot of the same things — and is a serviceable game-manager who can keep them treading water.
Dobbs hasn’t had much action at all in regular-season games but has always played well in the preseason. Cleveland could do much worse than him as the third guy who gets thrust into a No. 2 role.
