Cleveland Browns: Who will compete for the tight end 3 spot
By Jacob Roach
Cleveland Browns tight end candidate No. 2- Johnny Stanton, fullback/tight end hybrid
During the preseason last year fullback Johnny Stanton played some snaps as a third blocking tight end and even ran some routes. With the Browns letting fullback Andy Janovich walk and the expected changes of the offense fullback aren’t likely to be a position they utilize.
However, having a player like Johnny Stanton who can line up as a fullback when needed and block as a third tight end could be a direction they go in. Stanton can catch passes and be a versatile player being someone that can fill multiple roles on the depth chart, which is something the Browns have shown they love.
Cleveland Browns tight end candidate No.1- Miller Forristall
Miller Forristall is the most likely candidate of the five to make the final roster, the Browns have kept him around for a while now. This likely is because they like what they have seen from the former Alabama tight end in the preseason and camp last year. During his time at Alabama, he played in a total of 24 games catches 44 passes for 505 yards and 1 touchdown.
Like most of the other candidates, Forristall isn’t going to blow you away with his tools or tape but can do a few things you like and is familiar with the team. Forristall is best as a blocker, which is exactly what you have to do as the team’s third tight end.
If I was to guess right now who will ultimately claim the roster spot it would be Miller Forristall due to comfortability with the team.
