3 most overrated Cleveland Browns on the 2022 roster
By Greg Newland
No. 1 – Donovan Peoples-Jones
Let me be clear, I think Donovan Peoples-Jones (DPJ) is a good player with a ton of potential. But I also think he is one of the most overvalued players I’ve seen since Josh Cribbs was on the roster. DPJ was once the most highly recruited receiver in the country before an extremely disappointing career at Michigan.
Let’s not forget, in two full seasons, DPJ has only accrued 901 receiving yards, five touchdowns, and 11 starts. Yes, in his rookie year he had two of the biggest catches of the season vs. the Titans and Bengals, but let’s not act like this guy is changing coverages for the opposing team.
Last year all we heard about was how dominant DPJ was in camp, and then they threw it to him about 40 times a game in the preseason, and then he only got 58 targets in the entire season.
I do think he could have a breakout year with Watson at quarterback, but it could be eight or ten games before we even get to see that. The bottom line is, that there are guys who produce at camp, and there are guys that produce in games. Until I see a little more production on the field, I’m not ready to claim DPJ as a legitimate second receiver in the NFL.
I hope Andrew Berry doesn’t make the same mistake he did last year. He thought he had three great receivers in Odell Beckham, Jarvis Landry, and DPJ, yet none of them were able to show any production. DPJ is the last man standing, and I’m rooting for him more than anyone to finally show some strong production.
