No. 1 – The Conference and Division

The part that can’t be overlooked, is just how bad the NFC is in general, as well as the NFC South. Calm Down, I know Tom Brady didn’t actually retire and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers will be Super Bowl favorites once again, but the Saints and Falcons may be two of the worst teams in the league.

So not only do the Panthers have a good shot at four easy wins in the division, but they also play in the NFL which is lacking talent heavily compared to the AFC. It may be difficult for them to win the division, but a wildcard berth could be well within reach.

The other thing worth noting is the most talented division in the NFC is the West, so with the Rams, 49ers, and Cardinals all beating up on each other with the Seahawks likely having a down year, this once again opens the door for a wildcard position.

Mayfield couldn’t be going to a more opposite position. Even when he had his best year with Cleveland, he was still the fourth-best quarterback in the division. Now in Carolina, I argue he could start for two of the other three teams in the division which is saying something.

I’ve made my decision that I will only root against Mayfield in Week 1 when they play the Browns. One thing I will tell you is there is as close to a zero percent chance of these two teams seeing each other again in the Super Bowl, so I hope nothing but the best for him.
