The Daily Dawg Tags bring you all the Cleveland Browns news you need to know, including a look at the competition for the No. 2 wide receiver spot in 2022

Training camp is just days away now for the Cleveland Browns and while most of their starting positions are figured out, there will be a few camp battles taking place.

One such battle is going to be at wide receiver No. 2. With Amari Cooper firmly entrenched as the top option, there’s the expectation that third-year pro Donovan Peoples-Jones will be the starter opposite him. However, the coaching staff will surely keep an open mind, and with plenty of young talent on the roster, anything can happen.

A look at this possible battle and more can be found in today’s Daily Dawg Tags.

Five Cleveland Browns camp position battles: Who’s No. 2 (at receiver) behind No. 2 (Amari Cooper) — Chris Easterling, Akron Beacon Journal

"“Donovan People-Jones, Anthony Schwartz and David Bell are all mid-to-late-round draft picks in the past three years. All three are also seen as distinct possibilities to emerge as that No. 2 option behind Cooper.”"

Peoples-Jones has the inside track to the job since he was the leader in receiving yards a year ago. Having said that, David Bell likely would have been an early second-round pick had it not been for some poor testing numbers, meaning he could do enough to warrant more opportunities.

As for Schwartz, the second-year pro has been overlooked all offseason and there are even some predictions he gets released. There’s almost no chance that he does get cut since the Browns used a third-round pick on him in 2021 knowing he was incredibly raw. There’s a chance he makes a leap this season and if he does, he could surprise many of his doubters.

"“Grant has been really good,” Kevin Stefanski said after that practice. “He has done a very nice job. I think he has a really good understanding of what we are trying to do, which is half of the battle.”"

Delpit was considered a steal when Cleveland landed him in the second round of the 2020 NFL Draft but a ruptured Achilles ended his rookie season before it began. He was back in 2021 and played well, but the lights really seemed to come on near the end of the season.

He’s continuing that play into the early practices this year and Kevin Stefanski is excited about what he can bring to the table now that he has a full year of work after the injury.
