Impactful Cleveland Browns reserve No. 2 – Chase Winovich

Everyone wants to look at Myles Garrett and Jadeveon Clowney when they talk about the Cleveland Browns defense, but let’s not forget how effective a guy like Takk McKinley was last year when healthy. Although he will see a limited number of snaps in 2022, I think Chase Winovich could be one of the surprise breakout players.

As a rookie and second-year play, Winovich was fantastic as a defensive end. The former Michigan Wolverine had 11 sacks his first two seasons in the league, but then the Patriots moved him to linebacker where he was really out of position.

The Browns and Patriots traded players who weren’t great fits for their current team and I think each could have a huge benefit. With Winovich on the roster, you could see Joe Woods get extremely creative, especially in passing situations.

Clowney has the frame and strength to move inside, and Taven Bryan is a known specialist when it comes to rushing the passer. On a third and long, the Browns could have four dominant pass rushers on the field at one time which allows you to drop seven into coverage.

Cleveland has Clowney under contract for one season, but I’m not sure anyone is sold he is a long-term option. At some point, the money will run out, and a guy like Winovich could be the perfect option to pair with Garrett.
