Cleveland Browns: Myles Garrett tops TJ Watt in Madden 23
By John Suchan
Cleveland Browns edge rusher Myles Garrett earned the No.1 ranking in the popular video game Madden 23 outscoring T. J. Watt of the Pittsburgh Steelers
The good people at EA Sports know a thing or two about who the best players are in the NFL. Cleveland Browns defensive end Myles Garrett hit the highest possible rating of 99 and is the No. 1 edge rusher in the upcoming Madden 23.
Garrett, the former No. 1 overall pick, finished just ahead of T. J Watt from the Pittsburgh Steelers who had a score of 96.
While Watt has become the darling of the NFL and some believe Watt is a better pass rusher than Garrett, the gaming world gives the edge to Garrett.
Garrett and Watt have been battling it out off the football field this offseason as Pro Football Focus recently ranked Watt ahead of Garrett in their rankings.
Both players started their careers in 2017 and Watt has collected 72 sacks over that time thanks to collecting a whopping 22.5 sacks last season. Garrett, meanwhile, has 58.5 sacks in that same span including 16 last season.
There are other position rankings being released by Madden 23 later this week. That includes the running backs where Nick Chubb is expected to be near the top of the rankings. Earlier in the week, the rankings came out for wide receivers and new Browns receiver Amari Cooper cracked the Top 10 with the No. 10 ranking — his overall rank was a 90.
Cooper is coming to Cleveland with a lot of expectations tied to his arrival. He’s collected over 7,076 yards in receptions and scored 46 touchdowns in his seven seasons. He’ll be one of the few legitimate No. 1 receivers the Browns have had on the team in recent memory.
Cleveland did recently employ Odell Beckham Jr., but he never materialized into that No. 1 pass catcher.
Though Madden 23 is just a video game, let’s hope their rankings mean good things for these players and the team they play for.
