Even if Deshaun Watson misses much of the 2022 season, there are still ways the Cleveland Browns offense can improve upon last year’s performance

There was a lot of excitement for the Cleveland Browns 2021 season and despite a loss in Week 1, they seemed to come out of the gate ready to play. Unfortunately, things slowed down as the year went on.

By season’s end, they were 8-9 and out of the playoffs. Huge changes occurred in the offseason as Deshaun Watson replaced Baker Mayfield and they moved on from Jarvis Landry who was a leader on offense.

As for Watson, he faces a lengthy NFL suspension, but even if he does miss significant time, this offense can still be better in 2022.

No. 4: Unleash David Njoku

One of the first big free agent signings for Cleveland general manager Andrew Berry was Austin Hooper. The former Atlanta Falcons tight end was supposed to be the missing piece on this offense but he lasted just two years before they admitted he was a poor fit and moved on.

Once he was out of the picture, they signed David Njoku to a huge extension, showing their faith that he can continue to expand upon a strong 2021 campaign. That year, Njoku had 36 receptions for 475 yards and four touchdowns.

Even better, Njoku improved greatly on his blocking and cleaned up the drop concerns he had early in his career. Because of this, he was often the best player on the offense — other than Nick Chubb that is — during the season.

For whatever reason, he was still never truly unleashed. In order for the offense to be better in 2022, this needs to happen. Njoku is too fast for linebackers and too strong for safeties to contend with. Getting him involved early and often will be a huge boost to this offense.
