The Daily Dawg Tags bring you all the Cleveland Browns news you need to know, including Anthony Schwartz discussing Baker Mayfield and the fateful injury

Anthony Schwartz had a frustrating rookie season. Not only did he finish with just 10 receptions for 135 yards, but he was the one who took much of the blame for Baker Mayfield suffering an injury in Week 2.

When the Cleveland Browns beat the Houston Texans, it came at a cost as Mayfield suffered a partially torn labrum in his shoulder. He was slowed down the rest of the season, and Schwartz was hit with a lot of criticism for quitting on the route.

The second-year receiver has recently opened up about the situation, saying he didn’t feel comfortable speaking out as a rookie. Now, he says he shouldn’t be given the blame the way he has.

That story and more can be found in today’s Daily Dawg Tags.

Cleveland Browns News

Browns WR Anthony Schwartz reflects on feeling blamed for Baker Mayfield’s shoulder injury his entire rookie season — Mary Kay Cabot, Cleveland.com

"“It mainly bothered me because I kind of felt like people were trying to blame me for something when we both did something wrong on that play,’’ Schwartz told cleveland.com on the final day of mandatory minicamp last month. “I didn’t finish the play and I don’t think he made the right read, but we were both wrong and unfortunately it ended up like that.’’"

It’s hard to sit here and say whether or not Mayfield made the right read, but Schwartz did seem to stop on the play. That in itself was a mistake.

However, he was a 21-year-old rookie and he made a mistake — as if he was a 21-year-old rookie. It’s fair for him to say he took too much heat, but the best way to get people to move on will be to put up much better numbers in 2022.

No alternate helmet for the Browns in 2022 — Jared Mueller, Browns Wire

"“With all 14 teams being announced, no white helmet for the Browns in 2022. Given the tradition behind the helmet, it is fitting but, probably, there will come a time when some new version of the team’s iconic helmet will exist.”"

The league is allowing alternate helmets now which is a cool thing. And while the Browns helmet is an iconic one that should always be a staple for them, there would be nothing wrong with mixing it up for one or two games per year. Perhaps it will come in the future, but not in 2022.
