Top 10 Cleveland Browns of 2022: Where does Nick Chubb land?
By John Suchan
No. 9 Greg Newsome II, CB
Greg Newsome is in the top 10 even without a long history of success. He’s only been in the league for a year after being selected in Round 2 out of Northwestern last season. Even with the limited body of work, it’s what he did last season and the up-and-coming status that has earned him this spot. PFF gave him a top 10 ranking among other cornerbacks in the NFL when looking at his ability to shut down opponents when he’s in one-on-one play.
The Browns look to give him reps on the inside and slot role with the departure of former Browns corner Troy Hill. PFF ranked him as their 27th-best cornerback coming into this season. Profootballnetwork.com ranked Newsome 28th.
He’s a rising star in the league and matched up with his teammate Denzel Ward the two will be a star tandem of the team for many years ahead.
Newsome had nine pass deflections last season. If he plays in the slot, that number will likely increase. He missed a few games a year ago due to injury so keeping him healthy will be important.
Cleveland has done a great job building up their secondary and Newsome is a key piece in that. This was a great selection by Andrew Berry.
