The Cleveland Browns have several unknown players at wide receiver and the depth continues to be tested as now Isaiah Weston is out with an ACL injury — making it three wideouts that are injured just one week into camp

After the 2022 NFL Draft concluded, the Cleveland Browns added an intriguing name to their wide receiver corps in Isaiah Weston. The Northern Iowa product was easily one of the most athletic prospects available in undrafted free agency, and Cleveland needed depth at receiver.

Listed at 6-foot-3 and 214-pounds, Weston ran a 4.42 in the 40-yard dash, hit 40-inches on his vertical jump, and even had 20 reps in the bench press. His physical gifts made him a favorite for many predicting the 53-man roster despite being undrafted.

However, that likely won’t happen now as Weston suffered an ACL injury on Saturday. While it apparently isn’t a tear, the rookie will require surgery which could put his first season on ice.

Cleveland Browns receivers continue to suffer injuries

As frustrating as it has to be for the rookie to go down so early in his career, the Browns have to start being concerned about the position as a whole.

Weston was the third wideout to suffer an injury and while his appears to be the most severe, they did have to place fellow rookie David Bell on the PUP with a foot injury and second-year receiver Anthony Schwartz is also dealing with a knee issue.

Cleveland has seen players such as Michael Woods II — a sixth-round pick from Oklahoma — step up in early practices, which could help soften the blow. They do also have Javon Wims and Jakeem Grant, although Grant is primarily a return man.

The real question though, is whether or not the front office is comfortable with the lack of veteran options, especially considering how many players are already getting banged up. If they aren’t, then perhaps it’s time to see who they can add in free agency.
