5 surprises from Week 1 of Cleveland Browns training camp

3. Demetric Felton has been showing up
As was already mentioned, Demetric Felton was a very good selection in Round 6 of the 2021 NFL Draft, but still isn’t guaranteed a spot on the 53-man roster this year.
That doesn’t mean he’s a bad player, it’s just that he’s listed as a running back and the Browns already have Nick Chubb, Kareem Hunt, D’Ernest Johnson, and Jerome Ford on the roster as well. With such a crowded running back room, Felton is going to have to stand out as a receiver and so far in camp, he’s been doing that.
"“Demetric Felton has been heavily involved as a receiver and caught several passes Monday. Most of Felton’s catches so far have been off screen plays, but he’s certainly been given a chance to show what he can do as a receiver with the Browns missing Schwartz, David Bell and Javon Wims at that position.” — Anthony Poisal, ClevelandBrowns.com"
Felton recorded 181 yards on 18 receptions with two touchdowns as a rookie — while rushing for just 24 yards. He added 227 yards on punt returns and 172 on kick returns. He wasn’t an elite playmaker, but he showed that he had value every time he was asked to touch the ball.
So far in camp this season, he’s continued to grow as a player, and his confidence as a receiver could help him surprise those who thought he could be waived ahead of Week 1.
