3. Josh Rosen, QB

There was no reason to add Josh Rosen.

Cleveland moved on from Baker Mayfield this offseason in part due to maturity concerns. While it’s true Mayfield is an emotional guy, he’s at least had some solid moments in the NFL and has a desire to be successful.

As for Rosen — who went 10th overall in the same 2018 NFL Draft that brought Mayfield to Cleveland — it’s hard to say the same. There were countless reports about him being a “me-first” guy at UCLA and his entire demeanor screams complacency.

He also cannot stay with one team. Drafted by the Arizona Cardinals, he was traded to the Miami Dolphins in 2019. He spent the next season with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and San Francisco 49ers, then was with the Atlanta Falcons in 2021.

There’s this weird narrative that Rosen simply hasn’t gotten a chance anywhere but he was a starter for two teams and they quickly made sure to get someone else in the following draft. If he had the drive and talent to be the guy, he would have forced a team to give him a chance.

So far, it looks as though Cleveland is seeing why he’s simply a camp arm. On Tuesday, he got his first opportunity with team reps and started out by misfiring on a check-down pass.

Rosen has had his chance, and he’s not the answer. Cleveland would be much better off rolling with Josh Dobbs as their reserve behind Jacob Brissett during Deshaun Watson’s suspension.
