The Cleveland Browns defensive backfield is loaded with young talented players that have the ability to play one or more positions.

With each Cleveland Browns training camp practice that passes the corners and safeties receive more praise from people in attendance. Greg Newsome looks like he will give Denzel Ward a run for the best corner on the team with Grant Delpit making tons of plays as well. But a thing that is clear is that the Browns are focusing on having players ready to play more than one position.

Greg Newsome right now is the odds-on favorite to be the team’s slot corner in packages where there are three corners on the field. He’s shown great instincts and reaction speed in the slot where he will face a lot of quicker and more shifty wide receivers. But Newsome is still the second outside corner opposite Ward in two corner packages.

The expectation is for Newsome to have multiple positions on game days and so far he has shown he has more than enough talent to make that work. Former undrafted free agent corner A.J. Green has really flashed in camp and his name is mentioned right up there with Newsome as one of the training camp’s best performers.

Green just like Newsome is getting early looks at the slot position as well.

It’s something to see these young defensive backs able to play multiple positions. Green may make a play to pass up Greedy Williams as the outside corner opposite Ward when Newsome kicks inside to play the slot corner role.

Delpit and John Johnson behind these corners are also able to play some snaps in the slot when needed. Ronnie Harrison comes down to play as a dime linebacker to combat some of the mobile quarterbacks in the AFC.
