No. 1: Jerome Ford, RB

The Browns first offensive unit played poorly in the game against Jacksonville. But once they went to their second and third teamers, the Browns took advantage of that depth they have off the bench, especially in the running game. Newly drafted running back Jerome Ford made a couple of big runs late in the first half that got the team off and running the rest of the game.

You would have thought Browns veteran running back Nick Chubb was running the ball on one particularly beautiful play by Ford where he danced around the middle of the line and then burst past the defense for a 41-yard scamper. Later in the scoring drive, he took a handoff at the 10-yard line and was able to get past the defense on a play he bumped to the outside and just missed crossing the goal line.

In the second half, he was on the receiving end of a nicely floated pass from quarterback Josh Dobbs, Ford, with his back to the defense, skied upwards and pulled in the nifty touchdown pass.

On the night he rushed the ball 10 times for 57 yards, and he caught four passes for 45 yards. It was a very nice debut and certainly will make this ongoing discussion of which running back on the team might be released or traded in the end. Kareem Hunt asked for a trade this past week and the performance that Ford had in this game certainly made for more debate.

All in all, it was a really good job by many Browns players and the rookies.

Who will stand out next week against the Philadelphia Eagles? If it’s any of these players, we discussed today they will be one step closer to playing on Sundays regularly.
