The Cleveland Browns have several players to watch closely as they play the Philadelphia Eagles Sunday. Some of them have more to prove to make the team

Week 2 of the preseason is here and the Cleveland Browns have the Philadelphia Eagles coming to town. First, these two squads are practicing together and then they have the actual game against one another on Sunday down at First Energy Stadium.

Cleveland beat the Jacksonville Jaguars in their first exhibition game after mounting a comeback led by several rookies including cornerback Martin Emerson and running back Jerome Ford.

Can these two players duplicate that great effort?

Before last week’s game, all the talk was about quarterback Deshaun Watson and how he would look. He was rusty but that should have been expected after sitting out of football for over a year.

Now Watson will sit as he awaits any further consequences to be attached to his six-game suspension anticipated to start in Week 1. This leads us to our first player who we should be watching closely on Sunday.

Player No. 3: Jacoby Brissett, QB

More than likely the NFL quarterback journeyman will be the Browns starter in Week 1. He’s done a good job in his previous stops, filling in for big-named quarterbacks like Andrew Luck when the two were teammates with the Indianapolis Colts several years ago.

Brissett and Watson have different styles of quarterbacking but that doesn’t seem to be a concern for their teammates.

There will be some adjustments made by players with the change at quarterback, but the team will hopefully gel through it and grow as a team.

Brissett has had some success in his career and I look for him to surprise many this season and keep this team pushing forward and winning.

The former NC State Wolfpack is certainly not as light of foot as Watson is, but he’s a smart quarterback who sees the game well. Many of you might be stunned by how talented he actually is.

So, on Sunday, let’s see how he moves the first team offense. It hurts that their projected starting center Nick Harris went down with a serious season-ending knee injury. The center and quarterback connection is huge when we are talking about keeping the offense fluent.

All of this will be watched closely. There might be a fumbled snap or two or an illegal motion here or there also. But having a savvy veteran like Brissett should be fun to watch.
