The Cleveland Browns had some standouts in Week 1 of the preseason and if they play well against the Eagles, they could already secure their spot on the roster

After a win in their first preseason game, the Cleveland Browns are now preparing for their Week 2 opponent, the Philadelphia Eagles. There will be two joint practices leading up to the weekend, then the teams will face off at FirstEnergy Stadium.

For Cleveland, there were several players fighting for a spot on the 53-man roster that stood out in their win against Jacksonville. Now, a few of them could do enough in their second game to ensure they’ll have a spot on the team when the regular season kicks off on Sept. 11.

3. Nakia Griffin-Stewart, Tight End

The No. 1 and No. 2 tight end positions are set in stone with David Njoku and Harrison Bryant taking on those roles. However, the third spot is wide open.

Cleveland enters the weekend with Miller Forristall, Zaire Mitchell-Paden, and Marcus Santos-Silva all fighting for a job. And as of now, they’re all looking up at Nakia Griffin-Stewart who clearly separated himself in the battle of the hyphens.

Griffin-Stewart caught three of four targets on Friday for a total of 37 yards. He proved to have good hands and was running crisp routes. He also wasn’t a liability in the run game — and blocking could be the key to the roster for the third tight end in Kevin Stefanski’s offense.

A journeyman that hasn’t spent much time on the active game-day rosters, Griffin-Stewart might finally break through with Cleveland ‚— which happens to be his fifth stop in just his third season in the NFL.

It could end up being home for him for a while should he continue to play the way he did against the Jags.
