Browns players to watch in the Preseason finale
By Jacob Roach
With the NFL preseason wrapping up let’s look at three Cleveland Browns players to watch in the final game this week before final roster cuts.
Every preseason for the Cleveland Browns, a few players come out of nowhere to compete for a roster spot on the final 53-man roster. With the final preseason game set to kick off this week the bottom of the roster players have one last chance to compete for a roster spot. Let’s at three players that have shined so far in the preseason to watch this weekend.
Browns player to watch in the preseason finale No. 3- Brock Hoffman, center
Cleveland signed undrafted rookie center Brock Hoffman after he wasn’t selected following his final year at Virginia Tech. He’s been given a chance in the preseason and considering the injuries at the position he has a real chance at the roster.
So far, he’s shown some versatility playing both center and guard in the two games. So far in two preseason games, Hoffman has the highest pass blocking grade on the team according to PFF. Will be interesting to see if he makes the final roster at a position that has lost some talent because of injury.
Browns player to watch in the preseason finale No. 2- Tony Fields II, linebacker
Tony Fields II missed a lot of his rookie campaign in 2021 as well as the offseason because of injuries that really kept him from being able to get much going on the field. But early on during this year, and especially in week two of the preseason, he’s shined and shown everyone why the Browns drafted him last year.
He looks young, fast, and able to make the tackle when he gets to the ball carrier. He showed great football IQ and the ability to diagnose and read the play quickly and could be a really nice depth piece for the Browns.
Browns player to watch in the preseason finale no. 1- D’Anthony Bell, safety
Another undrafted rookie that has turned heads is safety D’Anthony Bell out of West Florida University. He has shown a great knack for making tackles in the open field against the run and after the catch which is a must for safety. He has above-average ability in coverage and he isn’t afraid to do the dirty work and hit the ball carrier. With a team that loves multiple safety sets, Bell is a guy the team must consider closely with final roster cuts.
