The Cleveland Browns have a need at the defensive tackle position and there are still several free agent veteran players out there that would help out

When the Cleveland Browns drafted Perrion Winfrey out of Oklahoma earlier this spring, one had the hope that they were on the road to building a stronger and more stable group of defensive linemen that make the Browns an even more formidable opponent this season.

Third-year player Jordan Elliott has been expected to make a leap in his development this season and they also signed free agent Taven Bryan, formally of the Jacksonville Jaguars to help fill the gaps. Tommy Togiai, in his second season now is another hopeful at the position.

The trouble though is that none of these players have stepped out and really made a name for themselves yet and we all keep waiting. I’m not sure why the Browns haven’t invested more time in securing reliable veterans rather than continuing their patient approach.

As we come to the conclusion of the preseason, it would be a good idea to strengthen this spot and Cleveland should still consider a few free agent additions.

No. 3: Linval Joseph

Last team: Los Angeles Chargers

The former New York Giant, Minnesota Viking, and Los Angeles Chargers defensive tackle is still out there. He’s had a very good career but he’s going to be 34 years old in October which may be why he’s still looking for a new home. Joseph was productive last season with the Los Angeles Chargers as he had 57 tackles, three of those for losses, and also a sack.

Back in his prime while playing in Minnesota in 2016 and 2017 he made the NFL Pro Bowl. He’s been a regular starter his entire career.

Joseph has also been reliable, having played 60 to 70 percent of the defensive snaps every season. He should find a home before the start of the season and it would be wise for Cleveland to try and lure him to town.
