Most Browns starters set to play in preseason finale Saturday vs. Bears
Jacoby Brissett and many other Browns starters are going to suit up and get some in-game action on Saturday during the team’s preseason finale vs. Chicago.
The Cleveland Browns are set to take on the Chicago Bears Saturday night for their third and final preseason game. Many of the Browns’ starters are going to get some playtime for the first and last time this preseason before their regular season kicks off on September 11th in Carolina.
Kevin Stefanski said on Thursday he is unsure how long the starters will play, so it appears Stefanski does not want to set a specific snap count for the first stringers. Browns fans should not expect the starters to play for long, but they’ll play nevertheless.
Following Jacoby Brissett at quarterback on Saturday night, Josh Dobbs, the preseason star of the team will be taking over the offense. After Dobbs, Josh Rosen is expected to get a bit of time at quarterback too.
Jack Conklin is one starter who will not play on Saturday night. Conklin is still recovering from a torn patella tendon which he suffered during Week 12 last season. He has been progressing in practices and has been ramping up, but Kevin Stefanski and the front office decided Conklin is better off not risking further injury while it’s still the preseason.
As for other Browns starters who may not play, we’ll have to wait and see. Some guys who remain in question are Nick Chubb, Kareem Hunt, Jadeveon Clowney, Denzel Ward, and Greg Newsome, among more.
Clowney and Newsome both returned to practice today, however, Jadeveon Clowney was still off to the side on the bikes today. Only time will tell whether or not the team is comfortable enough putting those guys on the game field for any period of time during the preseason.
For the opposing Chicago Bears, head coach Matt Eberflus confirmed that starting quarterback Justin Fields and the rest of their starters will play “up to the half” (25-30 snaps) Saturday night.
For a period of time, Browns fans will be able to see some starter-on-starter action before the Browns take on Baker Mayfield and the Panthers.
