The Browns are wrapping up their 2022 preseason schedule. With roster cuts on the horizon, here are 3 players likely to appear in the brown and orange for the final time.

The Cleveland Browns welcome the Chicago Bears to the shores of Lake Erie for the preseason finale. Both teams have a few questions to answer and sixty minutes to get as many of the answers as possible.

For some players, it will be their last game with their current franchises, and for others, it will be their last time on an NFL field.

Player No.3: Curtis Weaver

There was a decent amount of hype surrounding Curtis Weaver leading up to the 2020 NFL Draft cycle. During his three seasons at Boise State, Weaver racked up an astounding 34 sacks. After a stellar junior season that saw him notch 52 tackles and 13.5 sacks, Weaver declared early for the NFL.

However, Weaver fell in the draft and wound up being picked by the Miami Dolphins in the fifth round. The Boise State product did not last long in Miami, as he was waived after suffering a severe foot injury and was then subjected to waivers. The Browns pounced on the opportunity to bring Weaver into the fold and stashed him on their IR for the 2020 season.

After a successful surgery and an offseason in the Browns’ strength and conditioning program, the team was optimistic that Weaver would make the roster as a rotational pass rusher in 2021. But Weaver was unable to crack the rotation and ended up being cut and subsequently brought back to the Browns practice squad.

Weaver spent the majority of 2021 on the practice squad but did get called up for one game in which the Browns were depleted due to a Covid outbreak.

Now Weaver finds himself on the chopping block yet again. The Browns drafted two edge defenders in Alex Wright and Isaiah Thomas, traded for Chase Winovich, and signed two free agents in Isaac Rochell and Stephen Weatherly. Even with Weatherly now on the IR, Weaver looks to be on the outside looking in.

Short of Weaver having a four-sack game in the preseason finale, this is most likely his final appearance in a brown and orange uniform. And even with that type of gargantuan effort, Weaver’s best outcome would be to wind up back on the practice squad.
