Stud: Jordan Elliott, DT

The Browns have been searching for a run-stuffing defensive tackle and Jordan Elliott might be ready to answer the call. The third-year defensive tackle put in the work this offseason, adding a lot of muscle to his already impressive frame. And against the Bears, it was easy to see that change make a difference.

Elliott made back-to-back stops on David Montgomery in the second quarter, setting up a third-and-four — finally forcing a punt after giving up two touchdowns in a row. Elliott was powerful on those plays, pushing his blocker out of his way. Hopefully, this is something we can get used to seeing in the regular season.

Dud: Greedy Williams, CB

Cleveland has plenty of talent at cornerback, led by Denzel Ward and Greg Newsome. They also have rookie Martin Emerson who has been playing well in the preseason. Having said that, Emerson is supposed to be fourth on the depth chart behind Greedy Williams.

There could be some discussions about whether or not tweaks need to be made here because Williams struggled in coverage on Saturday night. He was beaten on first-and-20 by Dante Pettis, who hauled in a 14-yard catch. That allowed the Bears to shake off a holding call and the drive ended with a touchdown by Ryan Griffin.

On the very next drive, Williams again found himself trailing Pettis, this time in the red zone. Pettis got free as Williams struggled to change direction and the result was a 12-yard touchdown reception for the wideout.

The issues continued on the following drive when Pettis beat Williams on a third-and-eight, hauling in an 11-yard catch. As if that wasn’t enough, the defensive back was also flagged for illegal contact, which was declined since the catch was made.

A former second-round pick, Williams is in the final year of his rookie contract and might be in danger of not being offered a new deal when this season ends.
