Kareem Hunt has two first-half touchdowns for the Cleveland Browns while Baker Mayfield is struggling for the Carolina Panthers in Week 1

There was plenty of hype as the Cleveland Browns headed to Charlotte to play the Carolina Panthers in Week 1. Almost all of that centered on Baker Mayfield and his potential revenge game, but Kareem Hunt has shown that he has other plans.

After a few rough offensive possessions for the Browns, Hunt took advantage of a huge mistake from C.J. Henderson. A pass interference from the Carolina defensive back on Amari Cooper put the ball on the one-yard line and Hunt then caught a one-yard touchdown from Jacoby Brissett.

Hunt wasn’t done there as he put the Browns up 14-0 when he ripped off a 24-yard touchdown run late in the second quarter.

Hunt has spent a lot of time on the field, even playing alongside Nick Chubb. He’s not only made his plays but has thrown a couple of nice blocks as well to free up Chubb.

Browns defense is on fire

In addition to the play of their running backs, the Cleveland defense has been lights out. They’ve batted four passes down in the early portion of the game and forced several three-and-outs. Grant Delpit also has a pick, taking one away from Mayfield.

Baker Mayfield responds

Right after Hunt’s second touchdown, Mayfield finally found a rhythm. He hit Ian Thomas who rumbled for 50 yards, setting up a touchdown run for Christian McCaffrey right after the two-minute warning.

Both teams have had issues on offense but as long as the Browns can keep playing strong on defense and run the ball with authority, they should be able to start this season out well — even without Deshaun Watson.
