The Browns had their problems as a team in their recent heartbreaking loss to the Jets, but two players had major issues

In the Cleveland Browns home opener, they had an epic meltdown and lost to the New York Jets. During that meltdown, there were a couple of players that didn’t do themselves any favors in improving their standing moving forward.

Rather than getting better these individuals have really stood out in the wrong way and have many of us concerned and questioning what we’re going to see next.

No. 1: Grant Delpit, Safety

Grant Delpit is in his third season now and there was a lot of talk of him coming into his own after a full year from Achilles surgery. The hope was that he would be a big factor in the Browns promising defense.

Instead, he’s faltered numerous times already and has a lot of explaining to do for his lack of coverage. He was involved in two major mishaps in the game against the Jets where he was not in position to defend properly which contributed to the unbelievable loss.

With the Browns up by 13 points with a little over a minute to play, Delpit was out of position and allowed the Corey Davis to run by him, resulting in an easy 66-yard touchdown. Then in the closing seconds of the game, he was late to react to the winning touchdown pass in the endzone. Both plays unfortunately show that Delpit isn’t ready to be out there on the field.

Future opponents will see these miscues and continue to try and exploit Delpit. He’s becoming a liability to the Browns, and it might be best to replace him or let him watch from the sidelines for a while.

No. 2: Demetric Felton, Punt Returner

Every time Demetric Felton sets up to catch a punt in the game, all Browns fans hold their breath hoping he doesn’t fumble the ball. He’s had another shaky start to his season after he struggled last year in fielding punts and kickoffs.

Cleveland has rookie Jerome Ford taking back kickoffs this season and he’s doing a good job so far. It might be time to let Ford, or another player not named Felton, field punts.

The mental side of the game has hit Felton in the face and it’s not giving him any confidence moving forward. Last season he had four fumbles on punt returns and this season he already has one.

In the Jets game, he fumbled but had a teammate recover it. It’s that shakiness that has everyone watching nervously when he’s waiting deep.

He was a late round pick in 2021, but seems to be getting worse rather than better and it might be time to move on. Both wide receivers Donovan People- Jones and Anthony Schwartz have experience taking back punts, so there are other options to consider.
