Lamar Jackson excited to play against Browns struggling defense
By Randy Gurzi
The Cleveland Browns defense has been a mess in 2022 and Lamar Jackson seems overly excited that his Ravens face them in Week 7
This coming weekend, the Cleveland Browns will head to Maryland to take on the Baltimore Ravens. Right now, the Ravens are tied for first place in the AFC North with the Cincinnati Bengals at 3-3, with Cleveland right behind them at 2-4.
Cleveland has had a bumpy road to get to that record, but it hasn’t been much better for Baltimore. While their losses to Miami, Buffalo, and the New York Giants are nothing to be ashamed of, they’re frustrated since they had a lead in each of those games, only to meltdown in the end.
The Browns know this feeling all too well since they have also blown several leads in the fourth quarter. And apparently, Lamar Jackson has been paying attention because he says his team is ready to “put on a show” against Cleveland.
Jackson has had his share of struggles with turnovers in recent weeks, including two against the Giants in a Week 6 loss. He’s also dealing with a hip injury that limited him in practice — and his best receiver, Mark Andrews, is limited with a knee issue. Still, he sounds determined to take on his divisional rival.
Lamar Jackson has had success against the Browns
Overall, Jackson has a record of 5-2 against the Browns, but he hardly saw the field in their loss last December as he threw just four passes and Tyler Huntley played most of the game. He also made a brief appearance during his rookie season when the Browns won 12-9.
In all, Jackson has 1,284 yards passing with 11 touchdowns and six picks against Cleveland. Those numbers can be misleading since four of the interceptions came in one game, which was still a win for Baltimore in Nov. 2021. He’s added another 511 yards and four touchdowns on the ground while averaging 6.1 yards per attempt.
Cleveland’s defense could be in trouble this weekend since they’ve been gashed on the ground, surrendering 789 yards and 11 touchdowns. They’ve also struggled against the pass, giving up 1,379 yards with eight touchdowns and just two picks.
Limiting Jackson will be key for them this weekend, but that’s a lot easier said than done — especially with Jackson motivated to get his offense back on track.
