The Browns fell to the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday in a 23-20 defeat that came down to the wire. Cleveland looked better on both sides of the ball after their disappointing performance in Week 6 against the Patriots but was unable to pull away late due to defensive breakdowns and multiple controversial penalties.

As the Browns head into their Week 8 matchup against the Cincinnati Bengals with a 2-5 record, a playoff berth seems to be out of reach as Deshaun Watson’s return date approaches. The Browns are reportedly fielding offers for Kareem Hunt and Greedy Williams, as they attempt to recoup some draft picks after their Deshaun Watson trade.

In any case, the Browns have the talent on their roster to make a midseason run prior to Watson’s return. Four of their five losses have been by 3 points or less, and they have proved that they are capable of playing with some of the best teams in football. Here’s a look at three players on the offensive side of the ball who performed well in Week 7.

3. David Njoku, TE

David Njoku has been the biggest standout on offense for the Cleveland Browns this season, as he’s third amongst tight ends in the NFL with 418 receiving yards. Njoku has propelled himself into the upper echelon of tight ends in the league with his recent performances, as he has over 50 receiving yards in five straight games.

In the first two weeks of the season, Jacoby Brissett seemed dialed in on Amari Cooper as his primary target but has distributed his targets more evenly over the last five weeks.

Unfortunately for the Browns’ offense, Njoku left their Week 7 matchup with a high ankle sprain and is estimated to miss 2-5 weeks of action. Cleveland will look to win a couple of games without their top tight end as Harrison Bryant will step in at tight end during Njoku’s absence.

If the Browns are able to come away with victories in the next couple of weeks, they will be anxiously waiting for Njoku’s return to make a postseason push. The Browns have been hoping Njoku would turn into an elite receiving threat for years now, and his improvement this season is one of the biggest stories of the season.
