Cleveland Browns: 3 last-minute options at the NFL trade deadline
By Randy Gurzi
The Cleveland Browns found new life with a win in Week 8 and could decide to go all-in for a run at the AFC North title with some moves at the NFL trade deadline
Halloween was good for the Cleveland Browns as they were able to secure a win over the Cincinnati Bengals. The convincing 32-13 victory moved them to 3-5 and renewed hope that they could contend for the AFC North title — especially since they’re now 2-1 in the division.
They also have some reinforcements on the way, mainly Deshaun Watson who has three more games to serve on his 11-game suspension. But they could still use a few more pieces if they want to make a run.
With that being the case, here are three names they could add at Tuesday’s NFL Trade Deadline.
Cleveland Browns: 3 last-minute options at the NFL trade deadline
3. Sidney Jones IV, CB, Seattle Seahawks
Injuries have been the one constant in the secondary for the Browns this season. They have the depth to deal with it as proven by A.J. Green and Martin Emerson. However, they could look to provide more veteran insurance, especially with Denzel Ward remaining out for the past few weeks with a concerning concussion.
On top of the concerns with Ward, Greedy Williams and Greg Newsome II are also continually on the injury report, so adding more bodies is always a good thing. And one player who could be available is former second-round pick Sidney Jones IV.
Jones once looked to be a Round 1 lock but an injury before the draft hurt his stock. He then never really found his footing and has been a bit of a journeyman. This season, he’s with the Seattle Seahawks but has played in just three games — after recording 11 starts in 16 appearances for them in 2021.
His status as a reserve could lead to him being moved and the price might not be too much for the Browns to pull the trigger. Jones won’t be a regular starter but is more than capable of filling in should he be called upon.
