4. Greedy Williams, Cornerback

One of the names being floated around at the trade deadline for Cleveland was Greedy Williams and Mary Kay Cabot believes he’s one of the players that would have been gone had the Browns fallen to 2-6. Since they’re still alive, and Denzel Ward has been dealing with a lingering concussion, they’re going to be thrilled to have Williams down the stretch.

Williams might not have lived up to the hype that he came into the NFL with following an impressive career at LSU but he’s still a capable defensive back with starter-level talent. The one problem with Williams, however, is durability.

Throughout his four years in the NFL, Williams is always a question mark to make it to the field on game day. He was out for the first five weeks this year and overall has missed 26 games which is roughly one-and-a-half years’ worth of experience.

With that being the case, it’s highly likely Cleveland allows Williams to test free agency. They were prepared for this even before the year began as they used their first selection in the 2022 NFL Draft — which was No. 68 overall — on Martin Emerson, Jr. who has been playing well as a rookie.

Yes, there’s a chance Williams suddenly gets healthy and turns out to be the player we thought he would be but the odds are not in his favor. That’s why Andrew Berry would likely focus on keeping some of the younger players under contract, such as A.J. Green who is also scheduled for free agency.
