Perrion Winfrey was drafted in the fourth round of the 2022 NFL Draft but has failed to get in the good graces of the Cleveland Browns coaching staff thus far.

Remember how excited Browns fans were when they drafted defensive tackle Perrion Winfrey in the fourth round of this year’s draft? Remember how he was considered yet another draft steal by Andrew Berry? Remember how the fans got even more excited after his barking video after he got the call?

Well, times are certainly not the same for Winfrey or the fans.

Before Cleveland got boat raced out of Miami at the hands of the Dolphins, Winfrey was announced as a healthy scratch for the second week in a row. This could be a sign of things to come, as the team announced the signing of DT Roderick Perry II.

After the game, Winfrey took to Twitter to air his frustrations in a cryptic tweet,  but then later deleted it.

This is yet another sign that the rookie has some growing up to do if he wants to continue to be employed not only by the Browns but in the NFL in general.

Back in September, Myles Garrett, one of the leaders of this team, called Winfrey out for his lack of discipline. That was telling enough and there was hope he would get the message from a player of Garrett’s caliber, but that appears to not be the case. Garrett said he and other defensive players used their voices to get through to the young player, but he evidently either didn’t listen or care.

It takes a certain mentality to play in the NFL and if you are not committed to honing your craft, then you might not be in the league very long. Winfrey was drafted with the hope he could be a solid 3-tech defensive tackle, but that has not been the case thus far. In six games played this season, Winfrey has five combined tackles and two pass deflections.

Time will tell whether or not Winfrey remains in the doghouse in Cleveland or if this will spell a short stint on this roster.
