Cleveland Browns draft profiles: Byron Young, DT, Alabama
By Jacob Roach
The Cleveland Browns need to overhaul the defensive tackle room before 2023, Byron Young of Alabama should be on the top of their target list in the upcoming draft
If the Cleveland Browns defense wants to improve next season it will need massive changes in the defensive tackle room. It wouldn’t surprise anyone if the Browns were to use their top pick in the second round on the position — and maybe another later in the draft as well.
Should they take a tackle in the second round someone they should absolutely consider is Byron Young out of Alabama.
Young has the tools and talent to be a difference-maker on defense and when you turn on his film while he’s been at Alabama, he jumps off the screen. Young stands at 6-foot-3 and 292 pounds and possesses great bursts and speed off the line of scrimmage. Like most at the position the stats don’t jump off the screen but it’s easy to see his impact on the field.
He possesses both the power to anchor the line in the run game as well as the speed and athleticism to make a difference in rushing the passer. He still needs more refinement technique-wise rushing the passer but it is very clear that he has everything he needs physically to be successful at the next level.
Young brings everything to the table that the Browns’ defensive line has been lacking this season. There aren’t a ton of three-down defensive tackles in this draft but Young is one that can do everything you need from the position. If the Browns are in a position to draft him in April they absolutely should make that pick.
