DeAndre Hopkins to Cleveland rumors have started to swirl on social media due to a comment made by Hopkins on Deshaun Watson’s most recent Instagram post.

Thanks to a comment saying “glory” from DeAndre Hopkins on Instagram, some Cleveland Browns fans have taken it a bit too far and are beginning to entertain the idea of DeAndre Hopkins reuniting with his former teammate Deshaun Watson in Cleveland.

From a logistical standpoint, a potential trade could make sense for Cleveland to add another elite playmaker and possibly even the Arizona Cardinals.

Hopkins is in his age 30 season and will be a free agent in two years. The Cardinals are in a rough spot right now with a well below .500 record and now quarterback Kyler Murray suffering a torn ACL which will sideline him for the remainder of this season and potentially into next season.

Standing at 4-10, Arizona had a disappointing season and fell way short of expectations. Due to their underachievements, head coach Kliff Kingsbury could potentially be let go and the Cardinals could need to make some big player decisions. One of which could be moving on from the aging DeAndre Hopkins.

Cardinals wide receiver Marquise “Hollywood” Brown proved during Hopkins’ 6-game absence at the beginning of the year that he can manage a No. 1 wide receiver workload. Brown is a younger and cheaper option than Hopkins which could be one reason the Cardinals decide to part ways with the 5-time Pro Bowl wide receiver in Hopkins.

Any truth to the DeAndre Hopkins to Cleveland Browns rumors?

Despite all of the above, a trade seems very unlikely for two reasons.

First, the Browns don’t have many assets to trade for a talented receiver like Hopkins after moving so much draft capital to Houston in exchange for Watson. Also, Cleveland would have to take on at least a good portion of Hopkins’ near $31 million cap hit which is near impossible for the Browns due to their salary cap for the 2023 offseason being among the lowest in the NFL.

To make any trade work, there would need to be a major contract restructure and/or the Cardinals would have to be willing to take on a portion of the contract.

A trade for Hopkins would be close to impossible to complete but there’s no question as to whether or not Watson would welcome the move to acquire his old teammate. In order for anything to happen, Hopkins would likely need to request a trade out of Arizona first and foremost. As of now, there’s no evidence that he’s unhappy whatsoever.

There’s almost a 0% chance the trade would ever be completed, so Browns fans can calm down with the Hopkins to Cleveland rumors.
