Browns Week 18 studs and duds: Deshaun Watson destroyed in finale
By Randy Gurzi
Stud: David Njoku, Tight End
There weren’t many players that stood out in this one on offense — well, not in a good way — but David Njoku still found a way to play well. The veteran tight end had four receptions for 42 yards and a touchdown.
He made clutch catches, including one contested one over the middle of the field. Njoku, who was signed to a massive extension in the offseason, had the best year of his career and has been a favorite for Deshaun Watson. It wasn’t enough to get the win on Sunday but his future is really bright.
Dud: John Johnson III, Safety
Throughout the season, John Johnson has had more than his share of issues in coverage. On Sunday, that happened again and it cost the Browns seven points.
With just under two minutes to play, Kenny Pickett hit George Pickens for a 31-yard touchdown pass. Pickens was wide open on the play and that was because Johnson didn’t take the deep zone as it appeared he was supposed to.
Communication issues have hurt this defense all season and this was another example of that. And Johnson, who has been a part of many of these, again let the receiver go right past him for the big play.
