It’s mock draft season and for the Cleveland Browns, it seems as though the majority of the draft predictions have them going for defensive help

It’s that time of year again when we all debate what the Cleveland Browns need to do in the upcoming NFL Draft. This season, just like year and the next, it’s harder to predict who might be on the board when they finally make their selection, since the Browns are without a day-one selection.

That hasn’t stopped draft pundits from trying to figure out who can help this team in 2023. And the Browns official website recently did a Mock Draft Roundup, highlighting several predictions from multiple networks and one thing stood out — defense is where most are leaning.

Defensive tackle is the most popular pick with Dane Brugler of The Athletic saying Mazi Smith from Michigan should be the guy. Keith Sanchez of The Draft Network also sticks with a D-tackle, but he chooses Keeanu Benton from Wisconsin.

Charlie Campbell is another who believes defensive line should be the focus but goes with a defensive end in Mike Morris. An ascending player from Michigan, Morris could be an intriguing fit as the starter opposite Myles Garrett.

The 6-6, 278-pounder can play in a two and three-point stance and broke out with 7.5 sacks this season.

Luke Easterling of Draftwire was the only one to select a linebacker, tabbing Ohio State’s Zach Harrison as the selection.

As far as offensive selections, the one that could be huge is Jalin Hyatt, which was mocked to Cleveland by Tankathon. Hyatt blew up for Tennessee this season and had five touchdowns in their win over Alabama.

Hyatt would bring a major boost to the offense, but it’s also possible he goes in Round 1 and the Browns never get a shot at him.

Cleveland’s first selection is at No. 43 overall. It will be interesting to see if they surround their $230 million quarterback with more talent, or add to the defense. Most experts seem to think they will focus on defense, but with Jim Schwartz in charge, they might believe he can get the most out of their current guys and try getting more offensive firepower.
