The Cleveland Browns do need a lot of help on the defensive line but they can’t pass on an offensive lineman and a new safety in this 2023 mock draft

The Cleveland Browns have a foundation of players leading the way to a bright future and one that hopefully leads to a Super Bowl. That group led by quarterback Deshaun Watson, running back Nick Chubb, and defensive lineman Myles Garrett have a lot to do with that future, but the team still needs to build on its weaknesses and strengthen what they are already doing well.

In this upcoming draft, Cleveland needs to address multiple positions including at defensive tackle and wide receiver but also build up the offensive line more. In this new mock draft, we’ll start with the offense first. While some might think the Browns will address the defensive tackle position with their pick at No. 42, there may be some talent in the early rounds too good to pass on.

Round 2, Pick No. 42: Anton Harrison, OL, Oklahoma

Cleveland currently has left tackle Jedrick Wills entering year No. 4 after he was their first-round selection back in 2019. Despite the potential and the hope that he’d be the long-term solution to protect the quarterback’s “blind side” it hasn’t gone as planned and the Browns need to make a change. In this mock, that change is going to be Anton Harrison from Oklahoma.

Harrison just completed his third season as a Sooner and is projected on most draft boards to be taken anywhere from the late first round through the second round. He’s considered one of the best in this year’s group of left tackles. If the Browns want to protect their $230 million investment better than they have so far, then taking Harrison makes a lot of sense.

Wills has had his opportunities over the past three years and has struggled. He doesn’t seem to stay engaged in plays and oftentimes appears to quit after the initial pressure from his opponent.

While the Browns’ offensive line in general has been considered a strength of the team, Wills seems to be damaging that image. A change in the line personnel could be a breath of fresh air to the team trying to regain its competitive edge.
