It’s been a busy week for general manager Andrew Berry and the Cleveland Browns as they assembled their initial 16-player practice squad.
And while fans will be relieved that some familiar names like Michael Coats Jr., Nathaniel Watson, Logan Fano, and KT Leveston successfully cleared the NFL’s waiver process and found their way back to Berea, there are a number of practice squad omissions that deserve attention.
From major fan favorites to those seemingly on the roster bubble throughout training camp, here are five players who are no longer with the Browns (but probably should be).
Cleveland let several useful depth pieces slip away while building its initial practice squad
Luke Floriea, WR
Browns fans were pulling for the Mentor, Ohio, native and former Kent State Golden Flashes standout, but the harsh reality is that Floriea was always a longshot to make the 53-man roster as a sixth receiver.
But the practice squad? That felt like an automatic.
We don’t have access to the full story here. Maybe it was Floriea’s decision to weigh other options after he made big plays throughout camp and scored three touchdowns in as many preseason games.
His best path to making an NFL roster starts on special teams. Why the Browns opted not to keep him around with an eye on developing him further in that area is hard to understand.
Gage Larvadain, WR
Larvadain spent the entirety of training camp competing for the Browns’ top punt returner role, but it only took one attempt in the preseason for rookie KC Concepcion to run away with that job.
What fans probably didn’t see coming was Larvadain losing his practice squad spot to Kole Wilson, an undrafted rookie out of Baylor.
It was often an adventure back there, but Larvadain handled 24 punts for the Browns in 2025. He had the experience to justify a practice squad spot, especially after flashing some refined skills as a receiver this preseason.
Ahmani Marshall, RB
Marshall spent a couple of stints on the Browns’ practice squad last season and was basically in a two-man battle with Raheim Sanders for Cleveland’s No. 3 running back spot. He actually ran ahead of Sanders in the preseason opener at Chicago this summer, but failed to capitalize on the opportunity.
The Browns pivoted to an intriguing pass-catching back in Jaleel McLaughlin, who was waived by the Denver Broncos despite making their roster outright as an UDFA in 2023 and spending three seasons in their running back room.
McLaughlin is the lone back on Cleveland’s initial practice squad, so there’s a chance Marshall signs back on at some point this season if injuries pile up.
Chris Edmonds, DB
Edmonds was a trendy pick to make Cleveland’s 53-man roster after coming down with three interceptions during training camp. He was also among the Browns’ core special teams players during the preseason.
The third-year pro was outplayed by Donovan McMillon by a wide margin in the preseason games, though, and the Browns’ deep safety group overall left Edmonds completely out of the mix when all was said and done.
Cleveland’s decision to sign Boise State rookie Zion Washington to the practice squad over the more experienced Edmonds was a bit of a surprise.
Kingsley Eguakun, IOL
The Browns opted to carry three centers on the active roster in Elgton Jenkins, Luke Wypler, and Parker Brailsford, which made Eguakun expendable.
Jenkins can basically play anywhere on the line, though, and Brailsford has barely been able to practice after suffering a wrist injury early in camp.
Eguakun got some limited run with the first unit this summer as injuries mounted, and was rock-solid in the preseason, earning a 73.1 offensive grade from Pro Football Focus that ranked seventh-best on the team.
