KC Concepcion played like a man on a mission in Week 7. Deshaun Watson and Todd Monken kept calling his number, and he made Tennessee Titans defenders miss left and right en route to a career-best performance.
The No. 24 pick finished the game with eight receptions on 10 targets for 129 yards. He also added three carries for 23 yards, showing the versatility that made him the Browns' most promising playmaker entering the season.
However, he didn't want any of the praise on Sunday, not even after a big win.
The rookie from Texas A&M showed his determination to be better after dropping a perfect pass that likely would have resulted in his first career touchdown.
"I've been working so hard on my drops, and I let that one get away from me, man. Ugh," Concepcion said. "It would have been my first one of the season. But I felt like I did a great job not dwelling on the play, not being too focused on the drop and moving on. And on the end around, I finally got my number called again and I made a play."
KC Concepcion's response to his biggest mistake shows exactly why the Browns found a star
That's all you want to hear from a first-year player. Even with a career game in the books, he beat himself up for not making a play he should've made, and he'll keep putting in the work to be a more complete player and address the only issue that made scouts doubt him.
As much as the drop made him sick to his stomach, he just licked his wounds, got back on his feet, and kept making plays. He showed the short memory that often separates the good from the great, but he kept that play in the back of his mind to fix it later.
Concepcion is too dynamic a playmaker not to give him double-digit targets every week. He's twitchy and can make something happen in the open field, and the Browns' offense has been much more fun to watch and unpredictable when Deshaun Watson has looked his way.
With a game like that, it's impossible not to feel that the Browns would've been 6-1 if it weren't for Minkah Fitzpatrick's illegal hit in Week 5. Not having him on the field made the offense stagnant in that close loss to the Jets.
The Browns found a special set of young players in this year's draft class. They're hungry, and they're not satisfied with just winning games. That's not common in today's game, when young players are often entitled and focused on building their personal brands.
It's been seven weeks, and the Browns have already won five games. They had a projected 5.5 win total for the season, and with young, high-character talent like this, it's pretty clear that oddsmakers underestimated this squad.
