Cap Casualty Signing No. 1 – Khalil Mack, Defensive End

One of the weakest free agency positions this year will be defensive end. And in a league where pass rush and quarterbacks are kings, that means some of the top talents could definitely look to get overpaid. Unfortunately for the Cleveland Browns, with Jadeveon Clowney likely out, they are going to need to add a pass rusher with some creditability to give this defense a chance.

At age 32 and a $27.4 million cap hit in 2023, many expect the Los Angeles Chargers to Save the $41.5 million over the next two seasons and move on from Khalil Mack. I think the Browns should have a ton of interest in him, but so will other teams.

Mack was a Pro Bowler in 2022 again, but his number has been down each year since 2018 when he had 12.5 sacks. One thing I like most about Mack is his ability to do it all. He isn’t just an elite pass rusher, he is strong as a bull and is an elite run defender as well.

Mack also passed the durability test, in nine NFL years, Mack has seven seasons where he started every single game. I loved having Clowney the last few years, but I think the addition of Mack would take Garrett to the next level.
