Musgrave styles the offense

The hiring of Musgrave was not a mistake. Musgrave engages a quarterback friendly system presenting quarterbacks with multiple options.

Quarterback Deshaun Watson flourishes in quarterback friendly systems with multiple options. His time in Houston was characterized by plays with multiple reads and options in the sight line of the quarterback. Options in the quarterback's line of sight makes execution less complication allowing for more explosive plays.

Musgrave's offenses generate possibilities for a dynamic running game. This is good news for a running back room with Nick Chubb. But it's also a room that might have to replace Kareem Hunt. Luckily DPD writer John Suchan has already identified 3 possible replacements.

Musgrave served most recently as the offensive coordinator for the University of California Golden Bears. Under his leadership, Cal ran an option offense that looks a like like the offense the Browns are currently running under Stefanski.

In Musgrave, Stefanski hired a similar offensive mind that he can trust to help shape the offense around Watson. Musgrave can scheme designed runs off the option plays to keep defenses guessing.
