Browns Select DE Jabaal Sheard, WR Greg Little in Second Round

AUTHOR: | IN: 2011, Browns, NFL Draft | COMMENTS: None Yet

The first day of the 2011 NFL Draft was a day of maneuvering and pick-stockpiling for the Cleveland Browns, until they selected defensive tackle Phil Taylor to beef up the inside of the defensive line. On Day 2, the Browns made sure to address some of the team’s biggest needs in the defensive line and receiving corps. The team drafted defensive end Jabaal Sheard, out of Pittsburgh, with the 37th overall pick. With the 59th selection (also in the second round), the Browns finally took a wide receiver in Greg Little of North Carolina. More to come on these picks later, [...]

Grading the First Round of the Browns’ 2011 NFL Draft

AUTHOR: | IN: 2011, Browns, NFL Draft | COMMENTS: None Yet

The Browns made a lot of noise in the first round of the 2011 NFL Draft, but not in the way most of us anticipated. Rather than settling for a player who wasn’t on their wish list, the Browns decided to trade down and acquire a boatload of picks, thanks to the Atlanta Falcons. A move like that – trading one selection to gain four more (including a team’s 2012 first round pick) – was huge for the Browns, who are looking to add bodies all over the field. Naturally, a big playmaker like, say, Julio Jones would be have [...]

Cleveland Browns Trade Up in First Round to Draft DT Phil Taylor

AUTHOR: | IN: 2011, Browns, NFL Draft | COMMENTS: None Yet

The Cleveland Browns were one of the busiest teams in the first round of the 2011 NFL Draft, first trading the sixth pick to the Atlanta Falcons for a slew of other selections. Then, the Browns traded their 2011 third round pick (70th overall) to the Kansas City Chiefs in order to move up and draft defensive tackle Phil Taylor from Baylor. Taylor, 6-3 1/2 and 337 pounds, will be a much-needed addition to the Browns’ front line as the team makes the transition to the 4-3 defense. At first glance, this pick might have been a head-scratcher, but it’s [...]

Browns Trade Sixth Overall Pick to Atlanta, Get Four Extra Picks

AUTHOR: | IN: 2011, Browns, NFL Draft | COMMENTS: 2 Comments

It doesn’t come as much of a surprise that the Browns traded the sixth overall pick, but it’s shocking how much they got in return from the Atlanta Falcons. By trading that sixth pick, the Browns received the Falcons’ first pick this year (27th overall), second (59th), and fourth-rounder, but the real kick comes in next year’s draft. The Browns also received Atlanta’s first- and fourth-round picks in 2012. Sure, the Browns lost out on WR Julio Jones (that’s who the Falcons traded up for) but the Browns are making the right move by stockpiling picks here. They’re looking for [...]

Thoughts on Peyton Hillis Winning the Madden ’12 Cover Vote…

AUTHOR: | IN: Other/Off-Topic | COMMENTS: 1 Comment

Cleveland fans just showed why they are the best in the country. To put it simply, we want our guys to win more than anyone else does. Period. That’s something everyone likes to say about their home team, but now Cleveland has proof. For the first time ever, EA Sports and ESPN conducted an online vote to see who would grace the cover of the popular Madden football video game. Cleveland fans, knowing full well there is a pop-culture curse associated with the Madden game cover, went for the win anyway. We now have metrics, hard data, in the form [...]

NFL Draft: Browns’ First Round Pick Isn’t Everything

AUTHOR: | IN: NFL Draft | COMMENTS: None Yet

While getting coffee in the break room Dude A: Colt McCoy will never be any good with these receivers. If A.J. Green falls, we simply have to take him. Dude B: Yeah, we need to get a deep-threat so we can see what we have in Colt, but can’t you find receivers later in the draft also? And on the radio Dude A: How can you pass on Patrick Peterson? The guy runs the 40 in 4.3 at 6’1” and 220 lbs! He’s the best athlete in the draft. Dude B: It’s totally a passing league now and having two pro bowl corners [...]

Around the Dawg Pound: Late Monday Links

AUTHOR: | IN: 2011, Browns, Links, NFL Draft | COMMENTS: None Yet

Finally, some good news comes from the front lines of this lockout battle. On Monday, U.S. District Judge Susan Richard Nelson ordered an end to the league’s lockout, siding with the players. This means that the NFL is required to resume business and players can now go to work at team facilities. While this initially sounds good, the NFL has plans to appeal the decision, meaning our excitement could be short-lived. But until then, the lockout’s over, baby! And now, some links for you on this late Monday evening/Tuesday morning: Josh Cribbs and other players plan on going to the Browns [...]

AUTHOR: | IN: 2011, Browns, NFL Draft | COMMENTS: None Yet

There has been an endless amount of discussion about who the Browns will take with the sixth overall pick in the upcoming NFL Draft. From wide receivers to defensive lineman, the only clear thing in all of this is that the Browns have a lot of needs.
