Report: Browns Give Five Players Tryout, Sign One
The Cleveland Browns have had to turn over their roster quite often this season. We expected that GM Ray Farmer would want to churn the bottom of the roster to try to find the right pieces but due to injuries he has had to do much more than that. The Browns continue to look for pieces to fill in the holes on the roster and worked out five players according to a report:
It is reported that the Browns decided to sign Scott Solomon to the practice squad:
"The Browns will sign defensive end Scott Solomon to the practice squad, according to ESPN on Tuesday, per ESPN. Solomon is expected to fit in at outside linebacker with Cleveland’s 3-4 defensive scheme. He has registered eight total tackles, one sack, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery this season with the Buccaneers."
Lets take a quick look at each of the players the Browns worked out, starting with Solomon.
Scott Solomon – As the CBS Sports report said Solomon has spent time on the active roster for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Solomon was selected by the Tennessee Titans in the 7th round of the 2012 NFL Draft. He played in 13 games his rookie season recording 3 tackles. He played in 1 game for the New York Jets the next season before his 6 games with the Bucs this year. Solomon stands 6’3″ and 262 lbs out of Rice College.
Kevin Greene – Greene was undrafted this year out of USC. He signed with the San Francisco 49ers after the draft. Greene played defense during his first few seasons but moved to tight end for his senior year. The 6’4″, 255 lbs Greene has the athletic traits necessary for the NFL but hasn’t been able to put it together. He was on the Cincinnati Bengals practice squad this season as well. It is unknown whether he tried out as a tight end or a defender but given the other players on the list it was likely as a linebacker.

Garrett McIntyre – McIntyre was undrafted during the 2006 draft but has bounced around the NFL and the CFL for a few years. He played the last 3 seasons with the Jets before being waived before the start of this season. In those 3 seasons the OLB totaled 72 total tackles and 5.5 sacks. Mike Pettine was his defensive coordinator during that time.
James Oboh – Oboh is a tight end that the Browns had in camp. Oboh went to little Towson College with Browns RB Terrance West. The 6’4″, 250 lbs rookie was undrafted and the Browns waived him early in August before final roster cut downs.
Jamaal Westerman – Westerman was also in camp with the Browns and seemed to have a fighting chance to compete for a linebacker spot. The 29 year old Westerman was undrafted out of college in 2009, he signed with the Jets. Since than he has spent time with the Dolphins, Cardinals, Colts, Bills and Steelers before signing with the Browns this off-season. The 6’3″ 260 lbs linebacker failed to make the team and hasn’t signed on with anyone since camp ended.
