Dwayne Bowe Signing With Browns

The Cleveland Browns continue to look to upgrade their team, now with the addition of Dwayne Bowe. According to Ian Rapoport Bowe, who visited the Browns over the weekend, has signed with the team today:

Bowe has been the Kansas City Chiefs best receiver for a few years but struggled under Andy Reid and Alex Smith‘s check down style of offense. Bowe, the 6’2″ 220 pound 8 year veteran, pairs with Brian Hartline as additions to a browns passing game that was surprisingly effective, but small, last year.

Bowe had 60 receptions for 754 yards in an offense that infamously didn’t have a receiver with a touchdown reception. His best two seasons were in 2010 and 2011. Both years he had more than 1,000 yards receiving. In ’10 he had an amazing 15 TDs.

The Browns hope that Bowe will be able to find himself with a fresh start. He played with the Chiefs since entering the league. Bowe will immediately be the Browns #1 receiver with Hartline, Andrew Hawkins and Taylor Gabriel filling the top 4 on the depth chart.

Signing Bowe does not likely impact the NFL Draft for the Browns. While Bowe and Hartline are skilled players, neither is the big play, fast guy that can dominate on the outside. Their ability to run routes, catch the ball and even block will be a big benefit for the team both in the run and pass games.

Bowe left the Browns this weekend reportedly looking for a bigger contract. The team and player stayed in contact and seem to have found a middle ground. Hopefully this is not another Jordan Cameron situation where the agent is using the Browns against another team. Since Bowe has not been linked to another team, we would be shocked.

Josh Gordon is suspended for next year, and only played 5 games last year. 16 games of Bowe will be an upgrade in production, even though the talent level is much lower. Another upgrade for the team whose off-season is slowly coming together.
