Some people put out NFL Mock Draft posts every week. They likely do so because the thirst for them is huge, so it is understandable. Others put of Mock Drafts randomly, either due to new information (Combine, Pro Days, Free Agency) or from information they are getting from people around the league. These NFL Mock Draft, because they are so few and far between create a ton of interest.
Today we take a look at one of those as MMQB’s Peter King gives his NFL Mock Draft 1.0 in his mailbag. King has never called himself a Draft analyst, instead he relies heavily on his many contacts from around the league to keep up to date on what might happen.
Here is what King has for the Cleveland Browns in his NFL Mock Draft 1.0:
"12. CLEVELANDD.J. Humphries, OT/OG, FloridaIt’s a meat-and-potatoes pick for GM Ray Farmer, taking the second-best tackle prospect on many boards."
It seems more and more people are projecting an offensive lineman to the Browns in the 1st round. It makes sense based on the Browns desire to be a run first team, possible free agency for Alex Mack and Mitchell Schwartz at the end of the season and the value of such players.
For us, Cameron Erving at 19 seems like a better fit. He has the flexibility to play any position on the offensive line which will protect the team after this year and this year in case of injury. King has the Browns passing on Randy Gregory, DeVante Parker, Andrus Peat and Breshad Perriman at this spot.
"19. CLEVELANDDanny Shelton, NT, WashingtonHe’s getting dinged by a few scouts for his inconsistency recently, and he’s likely just a two-down player. But at his peak, he could be a Vince Wilfork, and the Browns need some defensive beef."
If you have read Dawg Pound Daily for any time, you know that Shelton is a favorite of ours. The Browns need a nose tackle and Shelton could be the best at that spot in this draft. Based on the limitations that King notes, Shelton could drop to this spot when the Draft comes around.

King has the Browns passing on Jaelen Strong, Landon Collins, Erving, Jordan Phillips and Eddie Goldman. Phillips and Goldman are options if the Browns miss out on Shelton, although we might put Goldman over Phillips.
Had King gone with Parker instead of Humphries most would see this NFL Mock Draft as a slam dunk. Interestingly Maxx Williams, Devin Smith and a number of other pass catchers would still be on the board in the 2nd round. The Browns could target one of them as well as a pass rusher in the first few rounds.
