Johnny Manziel Home for Easter; Returning to Rehab

Johnny Manziel‘s rehab situation will constantly be of interest to fans, even Cleveland Browns fans. Manziel’s situation is unique and interesting. He was the highest profile player in last year’s NFL Draft. He was the Heisman Trophy winner. He was the party guy. He was the guy that everyone in Radio City Music Hall cheered for when he was drafted. (I know, I was there and confused.)

Now he is the first very young NFL star, in recent history, to both admit he has a problem and to actually seek treatment to work on his issue. When his girlfriend posted a picture that we all thought was about Manziel being out of Manziel, we covered it. We found out that he was doing well and, as a part of his rehab, he was out on a release.

Last night we found out that Manziel was given another release from rehab for Easter weekend. According to a report, and picture, Manziel went out golfing with his dad:

"Saturday, 265, The David Toms Golf Academy, and East Ridge Country Club likely weren’t quite as forgiving. In town with his father, the Cleveland Browns quarterback and former Aggies star began his day by fine-tuning his game at 265, the world-class golf facility built by Shreveport’s 13-time winner on the PGA Tour."

Again another really good sign that Manziel is doing well in rehab. Releases can be lost and are earned by progress in the treatment process. That Manziel chose to go golfing with his father is a sign of maturity and focusing on the most important things in life. Also a positive that they chose to make their public appearance not in his home state of Texas and instead in Louisiana.

Jeremy Fowler, of ESPN, reported that Manziel likely will be returning to rehab after this Easter trip:

The Browns, according to reports, are expecting Manziel out in time for their off-season program on April 20th. It seems that everything is going as planned and they should be on track.

Once he is released, once he has been successful in treatment, the focus will return to how he is going to do on the field. Manziel’s work ethic off the field has been the biggest concern. On the field he looked bad but, if treatment helps his off the field, maybe we will see a change there as well.

For Johnny Manziel the person, treatment is the most important. For Johnny Manziel the football player, it may be as well.
