If this video is any indication, rookie nose tackle Danny Shelton is ready to do his part to help the defense’s problems against the run:
Hopefully that Tweet makes the rounds to Pittsburgh, Baltimore and Cincinnati, where it is sure to give some sleepless nights to more than a few players on those team’s respective offensive lines.
Pettine spoke about the transition that Shelton and fellow rookie Xavier Cooper are making to the pro game after practice on Tuesday.
“I think they are both where we thought they would be,” Pettine told The Beacon Journal. “It is just getting used to the speed of the game and having to process quickly the terminology and all those things. The physical part of it going against guys that are NFL sized and NFL caliber players. That is a big part of it. They are both where we thought they would be or a little bit ahead.”

Helping accelerate Shelton and Cooper’s learning curve, along with the rest of the defensive linemen, is the fact that they have to go up against one of the league’s best offensive lines every day in practice.
“Obviously, the quality of competition against our offensive line, you’re not going to find anything better,” defensive line coach Anthony Weaver told the team’s website. “Just the sheer experience, there’s no replacement for it. You can go in there, you can sit on the board, you can talk about it, you can watch film, but until you actually do it, you don’t know how (Danny’s) going to react. To his credit, he’s done very well, whether it’s with the ones, twos, whoever he’s gone against, he’s played very well.”
The Browns return to practice on Wednesday at 9:30 a.m. The team announced late this afternoon that portions of Wednesday’s practice will be streamed live on the team’s website and mobile app beginning at 10 a.m.
